Pandanus War / 13th June 2017
The Padanus War is a unique ritual that takes place in the archaic village of Tenganan, Karangasem. It involves a battle between the young men of the village using spiky pandanus branches with the intent of drawing blood. The war is conducted to honour Lord Indra who is the god of war and spiritual protector of this remote hamlet.

This auspicious day is dedicated to the traditional shadow puppets that are an important part of Bali’s cultural heritage. Puppet shows are performed to accompany rites of passage ceremonies as they retell mythical tales and stories of human morality using different characters. The puppets are considered sacred and on this day they are blessed with offerings and holy water.

The annual Bali Art Festival is a month-long celebration of local art, culture and cuisine. It is a highly anticipated event that attracts people from all over the island. A daily schedule of attractions includes performances of traditional dance, music and drama along with exhibitions of regional arts and crafts.
