Welcome to Kayumanis E-Celebration!

It gives me great pleasure to present this latest newsletter created especially for our guests and travel colleagues to keep abreast with news, events and special promotions from Kayumanis Group. I am filled with optimism as I look back upon what has been achieved by Kayumanis over the duration of a few short years. With four properties in distinct locations across the island of Bali and in China, we are making a conscious effort to share our signature hospitality concept, which is based on personalized service and integrity. Our vision is to embrace travellers and provide them with enriching experiences.

As a brand, Kayumanis is still continuing to evolve within the regional tourism industry. Our inaugural property Kayumanis Ubud will be transformed into a 23 villa retreat and a Balinese Blessing Ceremony was recently performed to purify the setting. Construction is still underway at Kayumanis Guilin in China and we anticipate that it will be ready to receive its first guests in mid 2009. The property is being built on a parcel or river landscape encompassed by jagged mountain peaks. Ancient Chinese folklore refers to this site as the ‘teeth of the dragon’ and it is considered a place of great strength and privilege.

Please take a few moments of your time to read E-Celebration for a quarterly online update about Kayumanis and its endeavours to accommodate the needs of seasoned international travellers.

Kind regards,

Sinarto Dharmawan

Chocolate Indulgence at Kayumanis Jimbaran
Kayumanis Jimbaran takes great pleasure to introduce a lavish three hour ritual that was inspired by the delicious taste and therapeutic benefits of chocolate. It detoxifies the skin from harmful impurities, greatly enhances natural elasticity and thoroughly moisturizes for a radiant glow.

The luxury begins with an Aromatherapy Foot Wash followed by a Balancing Massage to eliminate muscle tension and stress. A Chocolate Body Scrub and Rich Chocolate Body Wrap combination then works its magic and leaves the skin feeling absolutely scrumptious. New Look for Dining Corner at Kayumanis Ubud
In conjunction with the extensive renovation project that has seen the graceful expansion of Kayumanis Ubud, the Dining Corner has also been given a new lease of life. Elevated to capture the mystical beauty of rural Ubud, the Dining Corner and adjacent Wine Corner can now comfortably accommodate more patrons without detracting from the overall intimacy of the setting.

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the Dining Corner is a stylish restaurant that blends seamlessly into the encompassing woodland. Serving an exquisite menu of classic Thai cuisine and contemporary Western fare, it is a venue that truly pays homage to the senses. With a seating capacity that caters for up to 34 guests, the Dining Corner brings culinary excellence to this valley retreat.

Sunset Cocktails
While complimentary afternoon refreshments have always been a part of our unique hospitality concept, a brand new initiative was recently launched at every property in Bali under the Kayumanis corporate banner. This involves a weekly cocktail party held at sunset for in-house guests to socialize with the management. These gatherings take place in designated outdoor settings and promote the local fare, art and cultural attributes of each distinct destination.

> Kayumanis Ubud
Guests are invited to gather every Tuesday afternoon from 3.00 pm onwards at the Wine Corner where a villager from the local community will demonstrate a talent such as dance, music, painting or other artistic genre.

> Kayumanis Nusa Dua
This pre-dinner interlude takes place every Friday from 05.00 pm onwards at The Plaza, a stylish outdoor environment. Cocktails and traditional appetizers are served with the gentle bamboo sounds of rindik music playing softly in the background to enhance the mood.

> Kayumanis Jimbaran
Jimbaran guests have the opportunity to socialize every Tuesday from 05.00 pm onwards at Kalangan Square. A refreshing array of cocktails is served while the F&B team demonstrate how to create tempting Indonesian cakes.

> the gangsa
Every Friday in the gong garden from 05.00 pm onwards in-house guests will be treated to a selection of three different cocktails based on a main ingredient of Balinese arak, which is a traditional palm brandy. Locally inspired snacks will also be served during this casual 90 minute gathering.

Wider Culinary Selection is now Available
For many travellers ‘choice’ is the ultimate luxury. Taking this into consideration, all Kayumanis properties in Bali now offer separate menus of international cuisine in their restaurant venues and 24 hour in-villa dining services. Each property has always focused on a different culinary specialty, such as regional Italian cuisine at Kayumanis Nusa Dua, classic Thai at Ubud, delicacies from across the Indonesian archipelago served at Jimbaran and authentic Balinese flavours at the gangsa. However, we now strive to accommodate a wider range of taste preferences with carefully planned menus that transcend international boundaries. Guests are guaranteed to find dishes that will tantalize the palate and our Chefs always aim to cater to any specific food request or dietary requirement.
Kayumanis continues to anticipate every conceivable guest need with innovative services, facilities and special packages to ensure enriching personalized holiday experiences.

Day Spa Indulgence at Kayumanis Jimbaran
Many flights out of Bali do not depart for international destinations until the evening, which leaves travellers several hours to spare after their scheduled check-out time. A choice of 5 and 6 hour luxury programs are available for couples that involve special privileges to prepare the body, mind and spirit for the long flight home. Butler Profile: Sang Ade Artawa
Kayumanis is a brand that is widely recognized for its signature hospitality and luxury touches that include the services of a personal Butler throughout the duration of each and every stay. Kayumanis goes to great lengths to choose Butlers who are capable, caring and dedicated. It is these characteristics that have seen Sang Ade Artawa thrive in his role as Butler at Kayumanis Ubud.

Locally born Sang Ade has vivid memories of when he was a young child and used to bathe in the waters of the Ayung River. Back then the people of Ubud lived very simply and Sang Ade was fascinated to see travellers trekking along the banks of the river and in the nearby rice fields. It was the island’s evolving tourism industry that inspired him to learn different languages. Eventually he was able to communicate with visitors and share the tranquil beauty of his native environment.

Sang Ade worked as a Guest Service Officer and also a Freelance Driver prior to joining Kayumanis Ubud in 2006. As a Butler he enjoys meeting international guests and delivering a style of personalized hospitality that truly enriches their stay on the island. It is perhaps destiny that Sang Ade has been drawn back to his childhood roots to work at a property that embraces the Ayung River.

Guest Testimonies
“The most beautiful hotel we have ever seen! The villas have their private pool and kitchen, the all inclusive rate (mini bar, breakfast) is also very pleasant. We took a romantic interlude formula so our stay was very busy with spa, Uluwatu Tour, barbecue... the must was the candle light dinner, the most exciting experience! We also very much appreciated our stay due to the staff : always smiling, they call you by your name, our butler was so available and listening to our desires. The beach is really 5-minute close to the Kayumanis hotel and they have an agreement with Jimbaran Puri Bali hotel which have a private beach. And if you consider the villa you stay in, it was not at all a problem !”

”Our friends are living in Shanghai, teaching for a year, and found this resort early in their year. They loved it, and recommended it as a place for celebration for the reunion of 6 friends over this past Easter weekend. We were 3 couples, and during the weekend, one person celebrated a 70th birthday, and my husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary. The General Manager, Mintoro, and his staff always went absolutely above and beyond our every request if we had any. The food was Asian/Fusion and exquisite. They even presented us with beautiful gourmet cakes on the 2 special occasions over the 3 nights we were there! Each couple had their own villa, providing privacy unmatched by anything we'd ever seen, and we hardly saw any other guests all weekend. The furnishings were lovely, and the decorating touches to make us feel special were evident from the mini bar stocked with our preferred beverages to the in-villa CD's of our preferred music taste. The spa staff were lovely, very well trained and professional, and I would have had more treatments, but ran out of time. We took a privately guided 1 day tour of the Nanjing area which was arranged by the resort, which was very worthwhile and good value. Bottom line, if you want to feel special and pampered, this unique property delivers beyond expectation. Check out their website, and believe what it says. I would love to go back someday, or visit one of their properties in Bali. Absolutely divine. Thanks again Mintoro, for helping us to create wonderful memories! Carolyn

“Kayumanis pride itself of their service and they should. From the moment you arrive you are treated like royalty and always addressed by your name. Life just floats at Kayumanis. The villas are fabulous (modern and traditional) and full of small details that make the difference. Took once their bicycle tour on the rice fields (absolutely a must!!) and at middle of the tour our Kayumanis experts brings up magically 2 cold towels from his backpack!! Food is very good especially the Thai food. Their staff will really make sure you have a fantastic stay in Ubud.”

“To the Kayumanis Management:
We like to express that we could enjoy a memorable holiday in a beautiful villa. Pampered by a more than friendly staff. There was nothing we were not satisfied with. Over all many reasons to come again.”

Kayumanis Nanjing Makes the Hot List 2008
Kayumanis Nanjing is celebrating the official announcement of its inclusion in Condé Nast Traveller’s Hot List 2008, both in its US and UK edition. The US annual compilation recognizes 136 Top New Hotels in the world, appraising the location, service, design and value. At the same time, the UK Hot List acknowledges just 65 new hotels from around the world that stand out from the rest in terms of style, luxury and innovation.

Condé Nast Traveller is a prestigious monthly publication for seasoned international travellers and to be featured within its pages is indeed an honour in its own right. The magazine sets out to expose exotic destinations, seek inner city sophistication and journey to unique lands all in the quest for the sublime travel experience. The Hot List 2008 rates Kayumanis Nanjing along side a 12th century castle in Ireland, a private lodge at the base of a volcano in Rwanda and a retreat on a secluded fishing island off the Thai coastline.

Here is the excerpt from the US edition:
“This Balinese-managed property brings the best of that tropical haven to the new China. high concrete walls between villas ensure maximum privacy at the eight-acre minimalist-design retreat outside Nanjing, 90 minutes by the new high-speed train from Shanghai. In each of the 21 villas, a four-poster bed, sleek dark-wood furniture, and neutral fabrics imported from Bali fill the generously proportioned living spaces; each also has a private pool and a hot-spring mineral bath. The attentive butlers can arrange excursions to the canals of Suzhou or treks through nearby tea plantations, and on-site Chinese calligraphy, yoga, and cooking classes are also offered. In the pond-facing restaurant, the excellent chef prepares homemade breads and pastries as well as Chinese cuisine incorporating vegetables grown on the area’s verdant farmland.”

And the excerpt from the UK edition:
“In making its first foray outside Indonesia, the Kayumanis hotel group had the good sense to pick a bucolic lakeside location near Nanjing, and to import a team of first-class butlers. If these 21 brick-under-tile villas can be said to have a trump card, it is the Balinese team who glide about the properly with grace and dexterity. The villas are decorated in six styles: European, Chinese, Peranakan, Javanese, Tibetan and Balinese. Each is secured behind solid lacquered doors and set around a flagstoned courtyard with a lap pool and alfresco bath. The tub is fed from hot springs in the Tangshan Mountains, whose waters were once the preserve of the Emperor_ The restaurant, Nine, has a Chinese fusion menu, lake views and a thoughtfully compiled wine list. A gentle, rural pace is very much the way of things here. You might start the day with a t'ai chi session, graduating to a calligraphy lesson or cooking class, before popping into the spa for acupuncture and herbal treatments. Nanjing is less than an hour's drive away. No under-12s are allowed at the hotel.”

Hindu Blessing Ceremony at Kayumanis Ubud
Following a comprehensive expansion and renovation project that has seen Kayumanis Ubud more than double in size; the property was reopened in early April with a Hindu Blessing Ceremony. This sort of ritual, known as ‘melaspasin’, is customary in Bali for any new structure or dwelling. It is conducted to cleanse the surrounding area from negative forces that may hinder the peace and prosperity of its occupants.

Kayumanis Ubud embraces a parcel of river valley landscape encompassed by tropical woodland and aromatic cinnamon trees. It is a setting that possesses a rare spiritual energy that nurtures the senses of those in need. The property now features a dedicated spa facility and a collection of 23 distinct Balinese villas ~ each one a private retreat for sophisticated travellers who enjoy life to the fullest.

Celebrity Wedding at Kayumanis Nusa Dua
Stunning Singaporean model Candy Lim and Hong Kong’s richest bachelor Newton Wong recently exchanged their wedding vows at Kayumanis Nusa Dua. This treasured occasion was an intimate affair witnessed only by a small gathering of family and friends with a relaxed ceremony held at the private Beach Club.

The happy couple took the time to write a few words of appreciation to the Operations Manager in reference to their experience:
    Dear Deasy,
Thank you for all your help in making our wedding possible. It was a beautiful wedding and everything went smoothly, all thanks to you. All our guests were very impressed with the hotel services and hospitality of Kayumanis staff members. We will definitely come back again and will recommend Kayumanis to all our friends.

    Best wishes,

Anniversary Activities at Kayumanis Jimbaran
Kayumanis Jimbaran recently celebrated its 2nd anniversary with an array of socially orientated activities created to foster community relations and preserve the local environment. Staff members chose to donate blood to the Bali chapter of the Red Cross to boost the island’s crucially low blood bank supplies.

Other activities included the planting of more than 400 trees around the nearby Serangan Island in an effort to counteract the effects of rapid development in South Bali. By encouraging the reforestation of this stretch, it is anticipated that various species of wildlife that are a valuable part of the ecosystem will return to the area. The property presented two local school children with scholarships to help them achieve higher education and then made a cash donation to the family of a physical and mentally challenged child to ease their financial hardship. Finally staff members took time from their regular duties to participate in a general clean-up at the Balangan temple complex.

The opportunity to give back to the Balinese community was indeed a heartfelt experience for everyone involved and a fitting way to celebrate two successful years of operations at Kayumanis Jimbaran.
Our dedicated employees at Kayumanis are like an extended family unit. Please read on to find out what is happening within the Kayumanis community.
