Spa Manager, Nengah Supadmi, often creates unique body and beauty treatments by drawing inspiration from her childhood years living in a traditional Balinese village. She has fond memories of collecting red hibiscus flowers from the garden that her mother would grind up into a paste and use as a hair softener. Nengah has a wealth of knowledge about local beauty secrets and she is keen to share some helpful tips.
To keep skin in feeling soft and supple, Nengah recommends using a simple body scrub made from sandalwood and turmeric, both of which have antioxidant and moisturizing advantages. During winter, a warming body paste can also be made from rice powder, clove powder, cinnamon powder, freshly grated ginger and a splash of water. It can be applied to the body and the soles of the feet to relieve aching muscles, headaches and flu symptoms.
According to Nengah, Aloe vera is a plant with amazing beauty and medicinal benefits. It can be used to heal wounds and alleviate sunburn, and in juice form it is known to lower blood sugar levels. Nengah’s favourite use for Aloe vera is applying the gel to dry skin and hair for nourishing and hydrating results. It must be left on for 30 minutes and then rinsed off leaving both skin and hair looking good and feeling fresh.
